I am a professional tutor with over 10 years teaching and tutoring experience. In 2008 I graduated from the The Open University with a BSc Chemistry first class honours degree. Following my degree I began working on my PhD in synthetic organic chemistry at Cardiff University. My area of research was the use of silver nitrate and iodine to promote cyclisation in the synthesis of furans. In particular, the natural products Plakorsin B (a compound produced by a Japanese sponge and potential precursor to an anti-cancer drug) and the furan fatty acids F5 and F6 (potent anti-oxidants believed to help prevent heart disease and atherosclerosis).
It was during my PhD that I began tutoring and realised how much fulfilment I got from helping struggling students overcome their difficulties. I continued tutoring when I moved to the University of Reading in 2013 to begin a position as a postdoctoral research assistant working on a European collaborative project to produce actinide-selective ligands for use in nuclear waste treatment. The experience I had gained from helping struggling students achieve and surpass their target grades prompted me to formally train as a teacher and in 2016 I completed my PGCE with the University of Sussex and began a full time teaching role at a top boys school in Surrey. In 2018 I took the decision to leave the classroom and become a full-time tutor enabling me to focus more on my students and less on administration. I also became an examiner for AQA and Edexcel exam boards, giving me expert insider knowledge of the exam system. I now tutor at a top private college in Kensington as well as online and have delivered well over 1000 hours of tutoring to students in the UK, USA, France, Spain, Italy, India, Saudi Arabia and Malawi!
